Here is a wedding that I’ve been really excited to share with you all! Lovelight travelled to my (Clinton) hometown of Nelson to photograph and film the wedding of Drew and Sarah and to say we had an amazing time is putting things lightly! I already knew Drew and Sarah a bit from a wedding I shot in Warkworth where Drew was the best man for Laird and Katie… a friendship which pre-qualifies them as great people (with excellent choice in friends aye Laird and Katie!) They are both very down to earth, relaxed and genuine people with an awesome sense of humor. This combo is a sure sign that the day is going to be AMAZING!
The Lovelight team split up with Mark shooting the stills of the grooms prep and then their visit to see Drew’s Grandmother who wasn’t going to be able to make it out to the ceremony… such a beautiful series of photos with these two interacting.
Meanwhile I went and shot the girls getting ready at a stunning home nearby which had gorgeous light streaming in as the necessary preparations happened.
Wedding cars…. sorted: the most incredible Mercedes I have ever seen… if I remember correctly it is a one of a kind S63 AMG or something awesome like that.
Of course it wouldn’t be a wedding without some cute flowergirls…

Of course to match all of this Nelson put on a pretty good day for it, this is the view from the lawn at Mahana where the Ceremony was held.
After the ceremony, drinks and family photos we wandered around the Mahana grounds making the most of the incredible backdrops they have. Seriously this is a very photogenic wedding venue, and such a beautiful space to have a reception! I’ve been a fan of concrete for a long time so was loving the texture and tones I was getting in this light.
What I haven’t mentioned is how nervous I was editing these… Drew is an incredibly talented professional retoucher in Melbourne (Check out http://www.drewsmith.com.au/) he works for an agency on some of the biggest brands in Australia so his editing skills are far far far superior to mine. In fact I probably could have taken photos of rocks all day and he would be able to retouch them into amazing wedding photos of him and Sarah. (Please note I did not test this hypothesis)
And of course we had to head under the covers and into the vineyard.Cue moody photo of guys staring into the distance thinking of alcohol.
And three very fun bridesmaids!
Speeches were very heartfelt and moving…
Not that these cute kids seemed to notice…
During a break in the speeches we popped out to make the most of some incredible light and a stunning sunset…Then back into Mahana’s Cellar for a shot I had all set up ready to go. If any one is looking for an underground lair… you need to get in touch with Mahana as I’m sure this thing would be perfect for world domination (or copious amounts of wine drinking).
Drew and Sarah it was such an honour to be a part of your day, you are such a genuine couple and we’d love you to come visit us in Christchurch anytime… hmmm perhaps a Lovelight trip to Melbourne is warranted. Sarah you looked absolutely stunning, Drew not bad either… and to top it all off we had a great day with your friends and family.
