Frequently asked questions – Wedding Cinema

Here are some common questions we get asked about our wedding cinema products…

Who will shoot my wedding? Who will edit my wedding?
At Lovelight every wedding is personally shot by either Craig, Mark or Clinton, and at least one other professional cinematographer. Each wedding film is handcrafted and edited by your lead cinematographer in High Definition using Final Cut Pro X.

What’s the difference between cinema and video?
In some ways, nothing. Technically both cinema and videography creates a wedding video. But the end result is quite different.

Video is generally more focused on documenting everything that goes on during the day. Priority is put on the amount of content captured and not how it was captured.

Cinema is different. Cinema not only records what happens on your wedding day but also how you felt when it happened. Cinematographers pay more attention to composition, light and camera movement. This gives you a more stylised, emotional and beautifully crafted film to watch.
Video registers what happened, Cinema absorbs you in the moment.

What kind of camera’s do you use?
We use Canon DSLR camera’s – a couple of Canon 5D Mark III’s, and some Canon 60D’s. Our gear looks exactly like the camera your photographer will have, so its common for people to say to you “Wow, you have a lot of photographers at your wedding”.

What type of lighting do you use?
Where possible, we try to use whatever natural light is available at your venue, so we keep our filming as unobtrusive as possible. We prefer to keep the ambience and mood that you have set for your special day. The cameras we have chosen shoot exceptionally well in low light, but depending on how much light is coming in from behind you, we may use some LED lights at your reception to capture the speeches… so you aren’t a silhouette on your wedding film. We may also add lighting to your first dance.

How much of a deposit is required to confirm my booking?
Regardless of which package you choose, we just require a $500 deposit to hold your date. Pay by Bank Transfer, or Credit Card.

How long is the final product?
With all of our packages you get 3 sequences – your wedding movie (which varies in length depending on which package you select), your full length ceremony (usually between 15 minutes and 1 hour) and your full length reception (Often between 30 minutes and 90).

How long does it take for the DVDs and Blu-Rays to be ready?
We aim for a 12-16 week delivery of your wedding DVDs. Depending on when your wedding falls in the wedding season, some may not take as long. Blu-Ray disks may take slightly longer to prepare. Feel free to ask us how its coming.

Can we choose the music for our wedding film?
For our ceremony / reception / first dance edits – as these are live action edits we will use whatever songs were playing, so we aim to get a good, clean audio record or source the original songs where possible.

As our highlights films go online so you can share them with your friends and family around the world, we will choose a song that we can legally purchase a streaming license to show the film online.

We spend hours listening to music to find the perfect song for a wedding film – the song that fits in with what was happening on the day, the vibe of the couple, and the story we were wanting to tell with our edit. Typically we try and find a song that the couple don’t have an existing connection with (e.g. the song that was playing on the radio when they first kissed) as the wedding day represents a new chapter in their lives, so we want to create something that will always only be associated with their wedding. We also make sure there is space in the song where we can include special moments from the wedding day.
